Gen.IA

Gen.IA is a bottom-up initiative, born from colleagues within CSN5 and collaborating with USC-C, dedicated to exploring the transformative potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence within the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF). Our group focuses on several key objectives:

• We analyze available generative AI platforms, both commercial and open-source, while closely monitoring the rapid technological advancements in the field.
• We are committed to identifying and studying diverse use cases for generative AI across all of INAF’s activities.
• A core part of our work involves the prototypical implementation of selected environments to assess their capabilities, usability, and the necessary resources – in terms of manpower, hardware, and licensing – for developing complete systems.
• Furthermore, Gen.IA is dedicated to disseminating knowledge throughout the Institute about this technology’s potential benefits and inherent risks, as well as the requirements for its effective and functional implementation, through activities such as seminars and workshops.
• Crucially, we also foster discussions on the ethical implications of deploying generative AI solutions within the INAF context.
